Overview of Estate Planning PDF Print E-mail
PyramidStewardship is generally focused on the near term…what can be achieved in a relatively short period of time with the projected available resources. Seldom is stewardship addressed in a comprehensive manner relative to a person’s vision or from the overarching perspective that all we are and have been given is a trust from God, including our accumulated assets. For that reason, Planned Giving may be the single most important act of stewardship that many of us will ever perform. Planned giving is a “process” through which individuals concurrently provide for the needs of their family and areas of special interest, like the church, through a comprehensive approach to stewardship. To that end, a “planned gift” is a gift that is planned during a person’s lifetime, but not normally received by the family or church until after an individual’s death through their estate. Estate planning is a fundamental element of the Planned Giving process and relevant to virtually everyone. Whether we are nearing the end of our lives, contemplating retirement, or younger with a growing family, estate planning is important because we are determining how, when, and to whom we will transfer stewardship of what God has entrusted to us when we can no longer serve as stewards ourselves. A proper estate plan should accomplish the following:
  • Express God’s plan for the ongoing stewardship of your assets via an appropriate transfer of those assets
  • Provide for a spouse
  • Provide for the care of any minor children
  • Reflect your wishes relative to other individuals and organizations.
  • Transfer your estate in a tax-efficient manner, minimizing heartache, cost and delay
